One of the three 'research to Innovation' pilot projects of SUAFRI-EPC is focusing on the “Production methods to optimise economical and environmental sustainability in aquaculture and apiculture sectors”. This R2I project is implemented by the American University of Armenia and Dianova in Denmark.

During this pilot project AUA raised its knowledge on Recirculation Aquaculture Systems (RAS) and received in-depth training courses on the subject by Danish experts. The team identified two Armenian fish farms to implement their new knowledge as practical cases. In parallel the scientific at AUA analysed the national market and contacted a large number of fish farms to identify their needs and requirements.

One of the results of this pilot project is the creation of a non-governmental organisation registered in Armenia under the name TSE NGO which stands for 'Towards Sustainable Ecosystems NGO'. The concept of the organisation is to provide consultancy services related to the optimisation of the fish production.

TSE NGO has been selected by the project to receive hands-on support and coaching for the development of their activities. The Armenian scientists involved in TSE NGO are currently investigating the possibility to set up a new company to work on the Armenian but also Georgian markets.

Follow up the advancement of the plot project in Armenia as well as the development of TSE NGO's activities on our project website.
